Are you hosting any holiday parties or dinners this year? It has likely been a while since you’ve hosted people in your home. Are your kitchen appliances up to the task?

In this article, we’re going to help you get your kitchen and kitchen appliances ready for holiday entertaining and share some of our recommended kitchen appliances to make hosting the holidays easier.

Get your appliances “holiday-ready”

Here is a checklist to ensure your kitchen and appliances are ready for guests:

  • Clean your fridge - Dispose of mouldy leftovers and expired condiments, and wipe it with a clean, soapy cloth.
  • Fill the ice trays - If you use ice trays, start prepping ice and transferring it to a larger bowl now, so you have enough for your guests. If you have an automatic ice maker built into your fridge, ensure it’s full and not half thawed before your guests arrive.
  • Clean fridge coils - These should be cleaned 2x per year. If you can’t remember the last time you did, now is an excellent time to give them a light vacuum, so your fridge performs optimally over the winter.
  • Replace your water filter - Ensure your water is fresh for cooking and your guests.
  • Run a dishwasher cleaning cycle - A dirty dishwasher will add time to your cleaning routine as you’ll have to double wash your dishes. Run a cleaning cycle with cleaning products recommended in your dishwasher owner’s manual.
  • Disinfect sink and surfaces - the day before your guests arrive, give all surfaces a thorough clean and disinfect (don’t forget kitchen handles, the microwave, stovetop, sink, and the corners of your countertops).
  • Self-clean the oven - If your oven door and insides are grimy, set the self-cleaning function to give it a good scrub. Just make sure to remove any dishes or forgotten food before you do.
  • Check oven temperatures - Buy a small oven thermometer and check your oven temperature to ensure even heating. This will help you avoid under or overcooking your dinner.

Here are some great appliances that make entertaining during the holiday season more manageable and enjoyable:

Stocking your fridge with Bosch

Why are holiday recipes so complicated? If your holiday ingredient list is long and you want to ensure you have room for all those ingredients in your fridge (and have space for dinner leftovers), you may need a new fridge with specialized storage compartments and drawers to keep it all organized.

We love the 800 Series French Door Bottom Mount Refrigerator from Bosch. It features a beverage center drawer with a glass front and five pre-programmed settings to store your drinks (whether that be wine, pop, or beer) at an ideal temperature.

It also features:

  • A LEDLight in the freezer so you can ensure you’re grabbing the right frozen vegetables
  • Mobile notification on your phone when the door has been left open too long
  • An internal capacity of 21 cu. ft.
  • Filtered water and ice dispenser in the door

Cooking your food

We imagine you’ll be baking and cooking up a storm this holiday season, so make sure your oven is up to the task. With the Frigidaire Gallery 30'' Front Control Gas Range with Air Fry, you know it will be!

It’s got so many great features that make hosting holiday dinners less stressful, at least when it comes to coordinating the baking and cooking times for your meal. This gas range features:

  • AirFry technology for healthier frying in your oven
  • Faster, even baking temperatures in your oven using circulate hot air
  • Flexible five-burner cooktop to cook five different menu items at once.
  • Made of smudge-proof stainless steel to keep the kid’s fingerprints off the appliance.

Cleaning-up the mess

Perhaps the worst part of hosting holiday gatherings is the clean-up. Dishes piled up on the counter after a long day of playing host is no fun. That’s why we like the 3000 series Dishwasher from Bosch.

It features 30% more loading area, including a 3rd rack for utensils and drinkware. If you’re using your big stockpot for soup, you can adjust the upper rack, so you have more room for larger dishes. This top of the line dishwasher also features:

  • A half load option to save energy during small loads
  • Touted as the quietest dishwasher in North America (so quiet you can run it while your guests are still here).
  • 24/7 AquaStop technology senses leaks under your machine and pumps out any water
  • immediately (even when the washer is not in use).

Washing the linens

The “good” tablecloth rarely gets used, except over the holidays. If you’re bringing out the “good linens” and napkins for your holiday dinner, they’ll likely need a good washing when you’re done. And, if you are expecting any overnight guests, ensure your washer and dryer are in top working order.

An excellent laundry pair is the Samsung 5.2 cu. ft. Front Load Washer pair. It features VRT Plus technology, so it reduces noise (meaning if your crazy aunt spills red wine on her outfit, you can wash it for her right away, without worrying about a noisy, banging machine disturbing your guests).
